SATA II does not mean 300MBps

SATA II does not require 300MBps as a standard. It refers to other protocols. It is just a coincidence that the majority are 300MBps.

300Mbps SATA II Transfer Rate
by: Nathanael

The name "SATA II" confuses a lot of people, because in actual fact SATA II is not the brand name for SATA’s 3Gb/s data transfer rate, but the name of the organization formed to author the SATA specifications.

This organization is now called SATA IO (http://www.sata-io.org)
Cheers
