Adobe Photoshop
Adobe Photoshop is an amazing program. I have used it tons in this website, basically every image has been edited or manipulated in Adobe Photoshop CS3 Extended. 
It is a great to take a photo that you took with a camera, open it up in Photoshop and get rid of the background, add a shadow, reduce the size and then upload it. That is basically the process I take with every image on this site. I also might add some text to label certain areas or put a watermark across it.
Everything is easy in Adobe Photoshop. Well it makes everything look easy. Photoshop can also be used to complete extremely difficult and complicated tasks and is a very powerful program.
I would highly recommend it and if you are into graphical design or even creating web images, this program is a must. If you are a student then try the Photoshop CS4 Extended Student Edition. A student can get the Adobe Products at a huge discount.
The Adobe Products are expensive, but in my opinion they are all worth it.
