Wireless LAN Cards and Ethernet Cards

I bought a D-Link router some time ago but never used it. I also bought a wireless card to go with it. Now I’m confused. I have a few cards kicking around here and they all look like LAN cards. How does a wireless card differ in appearance?
Also, does it matter which ethernet card I use with the D-link modem?
All network cards can connect to the modem no worries. Some require a cable and some go through wireless.
A normal network card, will have a port on the back that the network cable connects to. A wireless LAN card will generally have a wireless stick for the computer to connect to.
Thanks
